What is cover honey?
Clover honey or Barseem honey is a mono-floral honey, with more than 50% of its nectar sourced from clover flowers. It is highly popular in many countries due to its delightful taste and health benefits. The clover plant, which is a type of grass, is native to many regions and serves as excellent fodder for cattle. It is also called Berseem in local language.
How is clover honey collected:
The clover flower is rich in nectar, with a flowering season that lasts from the last week of April to mid-May, attracting many beekeepers who set up bee boxes in the region. During this period, bees forage on these flowers to produce delicious clover honey, which is then carefully extracted using an extractor machine.
The extracted honey is collected and transported to our facility in Hyderabad, where it is handled in a way that preserves its raw, natural state. The honey is gently warmed and strained to remove visible impurities, ensuring it retains all its natural goodness before it is ready for bottling.
Why clover honey production is decreasing in India
Clover is primarily a wild flora that is exceptionally rich in nectar. However, the newer cultivated hybrid varieties contain significantly less nectar. Despite being sown over large areas, these hybrid varieties yield less honey due to their reduced nectar content.
Health benefits of clover honey:
Clover honey is rich in flavonoids, particularly flavanols and phenolic acids, which contribute significantly to its health benefits. These flavonoids provide powerful antioxidant properties that help neutralize free radicals, aiding in the prevention of chronic diseases and supporting anti-aging. Additionally, flavonoids contribute to its antimicrobial properties, providing relief from common colds and coughs. Clover honey also supports brain health.
